Chiquita becomes more sustainable with world’s largest solar facility

Ft. Lauderdale, Fl November 13, 2017 — Chiquita Brands International, the world’s foremost banana purveyor, is committed to actively and positively impact waste of resources. One of the many initiatives the company is pursuing, involves a facility in California that holds the world’s largest solar tracking system.

Edisun Microgrids is a solar technology company that developed a rooftop tracking technology called PV Booster. This system is the first and only rooftop solar tracker to meet the needs of C&I building owners and solar developers.

The more than 2,900 trackers atop the 368,000-square foot facility were installed by Edisun Microgrids, Inc. Edisun says that by tracking the sun throughout the day, its PV Booster technology increases energy production by 30% and enhances project economics by 20% when compared to conventional fixed-tilt installation.

“Use of the electricity generated will help Chiquita achieve our corporate sustainability goals and strengthens our leadership position among environmentally conscious global organizations.”, said Chiquita Brands International’s president and CEO, Andrew Biles.
