Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease muffin pans and line them with approximately 4x4 inches square-cut wax paper.

Mix flour with baking powder and salt in a big bowl and set aside. Let the butter melt slowly and mix the sugar in.

Smash 3 bananas with a fork and cut the other banana into cubes. Chop walnuts coarsely. With a hand mixer, blend butter-sugar mixture with eggs and vanilla extract for about 5 minutes. Mix in smashed bananas and then mix into flour mixture.

With a spoon, mix in banana cubes and ¾ of the walnuts and pour mixture in the muffin pans.

Sprinkle the remaining walnuts on top and bake for approximately 20 minutes on the center rack of the oven.
