New year resolutions often have a bad rep for having incredibly low success rates.

Whether it’s a lack of motivation or simply setting unrealistic expectations, chances are that some of them don’t ever get completed. Perhaps you start off well for the first couple of weeks and then life gets in the way. Don’t be hard on yourself! The key is to set several simple goals that are easy to integrate into your routine. Once you have conquered your first, you will have an amazing feeling of accomplishment. And, motivation to tackle the next one!

Eat mindfully

Think before you eat. No, this does not mean counting calories or depriving yourself! It simply means being conscious of what is on your plate. Take a look at what colors are on your plate throughout the day. Eating a variety of colors is a good sign that you’re are getting a variety of nutrients. The more colors you eat the more varied the nutrients you take in. Who doesn’t love seeing the rainbow or better yet, eating it? Aim to see red, orange, yellow, green, white, and purple or blue on your plate in each meal

Commit to a sleep routine

Consistency is the key! Trying to get to sleep at roughly the same hour every night and waking up at the same time every morning. If you can get into a routine you will alter your body clock. Your body will naturally feel tired when its time to go to bed, making it easier to fall asleep. More importantly, you won’t have to drag yourself out of bed in the morning. Through routine, you will find that you will begin to wake up at the right time and actually feel well rested! Plus, you won’t experience the same hearting-pounding shock of when your alarm sounds during deep sleep. If you are consistent, you should already be in a light sleep, ready to wake when your alarm sounds.

Cut down on refined sugar

It may seem hard to cut back on refined sugars because nowadays, they are hidden in all packaged and processed foods! But all you need to do is make sure you’re eating real, whole foods. It means getting your sugar fixes naturally, from sources like Chiquita bananas, of course! Get rid of sugary packaged cereals and whip up a breakfast of Chiquita Banana and Granola. Switch store-bought sauces for our Chiquita Banana Mango Salsa, it’s a perfect match with whitefish!

Drink more water

It’s easy to forget to drink enough water throughout the day but it is so essential for the functioning of your body. Start carrying a water bottle with you! If you can’t remember to sip on it often enough, set reminders on your phone. Place post-it notes on your desk or around the house to remind you to have a glass of water.

Conquering these resolutions will help you take steps in the right direction to conquer your other goals. Baby steps will become giant leaps in the right direction, and your body and mind will thank you for it! Go on, this year you will achieve your resolutions with Chiquita.
